Festive cheer filled the Betjeman Centre in Wadebridge for a special Christmas meal for those who would have otherwise been on their own or unable to cook a meal.

The cheerful celebration organised by Concern Wadebridge took place on Sunday 22nd December and saw over 80 people attend from the Wadebridge area and many other meals delivered to peoples houses who were unable to attend.

A wonderful team of volunteers helped to prepare food, provided transport, waitressed and provided entertainment and most importantly did the dishes!

Everyone who attended was also given a Christmas present which were all kindly donated by Rachel and her team at Wadebridge Slimming World.

Concern Wadebridge manager Andy Lyle said: “It really was a delightful event. Everyone was laughing and chatting away, there was a lovely, happy atmosphere.

“We are really honoured to be able to provide a Christmas meal for those who might not have been able to cook for themselves or who would have been on their own. I cannot thank the volunteers enough for helping to make it happen especially my wife Bev who cooked the main meal.

A huge thank you to all the local businesses and suppliers who either provided cash donation or food to help us provide the meal and entrainment including: Williams Dairy & Butchers, Rhoddas Creamery, Chadds, Paul Ainsworth’s Mariners at Rock, Cough Bakery, Bridge Bistro, Tesco, Total Produce, Slimming World, The Rotary Club of Wadebridge, David Bray, Sproull Solicitors, Sharp’s Brewery and Callestick Farm.”

The centre also hosted a Christmas raffle which has helped to raise nearly £250 which will be used to help those in need in our local community – thank you to everyone who donated prizes including Bricknells, Malcolm Barnecutts, Millers Countrywide, Cole, Ray and White, Carraways, Total Produce and volunteers and our members.

Concern Wadebridge would also like to thank Wadebridge Social Club, Port Isaac Rowing Club, The Swan Wadebridge, Maltsters Arms and Dollies Tea Rooms who have all recognised the charity with generous donations throughout the year.
